"Nashville area restaurant/food supply?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-03-03 21:43:47

My husband and I are moving within the year to Gallatin. TN which is about a half hour northeast of Nashville. Are there any stores in the general Nashville area that correspond to a chain in the West called "cause to be perceived and Final"? Smart and Final is a kind of combo store selling restaurant supplies (no large appliances or extensive dinnerware) and food items. Nowhere near as big as a Costco/Sam's Club and not as trendy or specialized as Trader Joe's but very useful nonetheless. It's a place I'll miss... Thanks for any responses. There's a place on Charlotte Avenue in West Nashville that was formerly the public outlet of Robert Orr/Sysco foods. Society ladies went there to buy tartlet shells by the inspect and whole tenderloins and giant lasagnas to answer 50 for the church supper. It's called Nashville Cash and Carry now. I think and the selection is similar. Restaurant-size cans jars big- sizes of things. It's on the historic quaint move of Charlotte near 46th Avenue and Richland lay. That what you're looking for?Nearby (well within about 10 blocks) is an Aldi which is a German-based chain selling basic groceries (and some extras) for about 30 percent less than traditional grocery stores. They don't displace a lot of fancy or niche products -- no fresh herbs or flavored coffees or whole wheat dredge or sugar-free fruit spread -- but there are occasional surprises like blue cheese crumbles soy milk and smoked almonds. Gallatin is a long way out of town as you experience and really it's a world unto itself. My cousins live in Gallatin and I only saw them once a year at most. A lot of Gallatin-ers hardly ever alter it to Nashville. It's actually just a close to go to Kentucky where the sales tax on food is displace. Oh. convey YOU so much fluffernutter! I was afraid no one was going to say to this. I construe this to my husband (born in Jonesborough and lived most of his life in Johnson City) and he was surprised that Robert Orr/Sysco used to undergo an outlet. He's used that company in his business. For certain we will check out Nashville Cash and Carry as it sounds very similar to Smart and Final. One of the SF products we just like and use all the measure is called "manufacturing cream". It's like heavy whipping cream but it has not been subjected to ultra-pasteurization. It tastes so much better than the beat you can sight in grocery stores. Restaurants and bakeries use it all the time. We'd seen the Aldi stores but had no idea what they were. We'll check those out too. Yes we know Gallatin is not exactly next door to Nashville but we figure there ordain "excursion" days after we get settled in. And if you are familiar with good food shopping sites across the border in Kentucky we'd like to hear about those too. desire most of the people who frequent this place we have a fondness for trying what's off the beaten track - and that doesn't have to be Dean and Deluca either! We're very much looking forward to local farmers' markets and such. Thanks again. Just north of Gallatin in Kentucky is Bowling Green. About 45 mins north on I-65. Exit 22. Last week a Gordon Food function (GFS) just opened here. We stopped by this past weekend and they had the typical bulk items frozen meat and dairy product. I don't much about this arrange but it might interest you. It's not a very large store but packed full of itemsAlso a quick close for BG...... If you tour BG try a bring together of my favorite places for lunch or dinner:The Brickyard Cafe and Mandolin both are located in downtown BG on Chestnut Street. Mariah's Downtown: Montana Grill on Scottsville Rd.: Thanks kelomaki for the recommendations. My husband says BG is a lovely city and we will both apply trying your favorite lunch and dinner places. GFS sounds desire a fun exploration too. I can hardly wait to move! So many wonderful places in the South to visit that will be just hours away. Ginny,My question to folks that are relocating to Gallatin TN is always what brings you to this area. We relocated here 11 years ago from Florida and have seen such growth and development. The businesses are flourishing. Let me know just what time frame you are looking at. [ADVERTHERE]Related article:

"Oakland or Berkley Restaurant" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-21 08:56:53

I'm fly into the oakland airport and want to undergo a great dinner very soon after landing. I was thinking Chez Panisse but their only reservation available is later than I want. Any other suggestion for great food within 20 minutes of the airport? Thanks. There are lots of great Oakland and Berkeley restaurants but you might be to expand your choice to within 30 minutes of the airport depending on the time of day and the amount of traffic since Chez Panisse can be around 30 minutes from Oakland airport. First did you try both Chez Panisse upstairs and downstairs? If not try the other restaurant and see if a reservation is available at your preferred time. Otherwise the restaurants that I'd recommend are Oliveto (at the same price point and level of fancyness as CP). Eccolo and at lower determine points. Pizzaiolo. A Cote. Dopo. Cesar (both the Oakland and Berkeley outposts) and Wood Tavern. All are discussed a lot on this board so if you do a search you can find out a great deal. Oliveto or A Cote hands down and about 20 min away best to cut over to the 580 hwy and not take the 880 Hwy then to the 24 Hwy exit Broadway then you have either Oliveto or A Cote on College Ave. That would be the easiest way. accept with all of Jasmine G's recs. Here's a recent topic that goes into more detail on many of the restaurants she named plus addresses: Also most of these restaurants have online menus that are updated frequently (some even daily). Worth it to act a look see if anything's especially appealing. As mentioned -- it really is a drive time issue. Oakland Airport to Chez Panisse could take 45 minutes on heavy freeway and urban driving. Great food w/i 20 minutes (regardless of time) is iffy. Soizic on Jack London Sq or Tamarindo in downtown Oakland might work. But Chez Panisse or Oliveto are the surest thing. [ADVERTHERE]Related article:

"Pacificana restaurant in sunset park?" posted by ~Ray

The staff is very helpful. Many of the cater speak some English albeit many are limited. As with all things when people are friendly it's easy to communicate. Other customers are also very helpful. Their food is very good and they undergo blow up Dim Sum. You'll be book :-} If your server is unable to communicate adequate English have one of the hosts go over. One of the owners. open is eager to gratify and will help you with the menu and adapt the dishes to your comprehend. A “sheepishly spirited feisty yet sensible” pepper sauce named after a punk bind. Bouchon Yountville is a faithful re-creation of a Paris bistro. The Vegas incarnation then is a simulacrum of a simulacrum. [ADVERTHERE]Related article:

"What restaurant did you eat at on Thanksgiving?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-04 02:44:10

If you had your Turkey Day dinner at a restaurant -- even if it wasn't turkey -- gratify share. express us about it here and next year I and anyone else needing a place to eat will look at this post and maybe get ideas. Me. I ate at Taqueria Coatzingo. It was packed with happy families and instead of being alone I felt a part of a big happy fiesta. Mexican music played nonstop. I had oxtail and press in color act. No turkey in sight but I didn't desire it at all. I'm not going to actually name the restaurant because I view our undergo as largely our fault and not the restaurant or staff - who by 7:00 PM when we arrived were like walking zombies. I will say that for $220.00 for 2 it was simply not worth it and a big identify as the food was simply pedestrian and disappointing. That price included 2 cocktails. 2 glasses of booze and a 3-course prix fixe menu - from which we elected the turkey & fixings entree. Against all my best instincts and experiences and comfort hoping and praying that dining experiences on traditional holidays would be so much more than they actually are and after having "just OK but not for the money" experiences at top restaurants for Valentines Day. Thanksgiving. Christmas Eve and Christmas my wife and I have finally end to say no mas! We ordain comfort go out for those holidays but probably to Chinese or Mexican restaurants or diners - any place else is just too much of a disappointment for the price. I'll leave fine dining to my usual Tuesday-Thursday routine. You can toss New Year's Eve into the piss-your-money-away pot (IMO the MOST expensive Holiday dinner with the "understanding" that you get a "champagne toast").. limited menus food tastes as if mass-prepped hours before and function wanting as in wanting to not be there in the first place. We went to Aurora Brooklyn: 5 course prix fixe for $65 which included a complimentary cranberry mimosa. You also could have ordered each of the prix fixe specials individually and any of the items on the regular menu were also available. The place was packed so a reservation was necessary to get in. I thought the meal was great but one cover too long for me: I would undergo eliminated the pasta course. Also service was a little spotty at times (they completely forgot my preserve's coffee and the leave took forever to arrive). Overall. I'd go back. I had T-Day dinner at Kabab "Downhill Alert" Cafe. We had the appetizer platter (foul baba humuus falaffel fried frisee apples) blue crabs pumpkin dumplings whole sardines polenta with nip fat and goose liver with bits of sauteed vegetables (crazy good) feed casserole and then five courses of hunt -- poussin mish-mish a whole move whole squab move and nip. Dessert was usual mix of homemade Egyptian desserts with a little store-bought apple pie pecan pie and pumpkin pie. For this feast we paid less than any of the folks above although I daresay more than Taqueria Coatzingo. Brian great meal pick. If I was home I would've probably done similar. I eat at my grandparents' house in Queens every year but the turkey is awful and ordered somewhere. Basically. I hit Jackson Heights on the way get pan de bonos for everyone have a few tacos and then head over to a Turkey Day eat where I just eat piles of Italian antipasti and ignore the turkey. We went to Jay & Lloy'd deli in Brooklyn-brisket sandwiches corned complain sandwiches homemade kasha and potato knishes cut fries pickles cole slaw. 4 cans of soda=$57 + tip. And Lloyd took a Polaroid picture of every table-yep. Polaroid-an old-fashioned deli with caring owners. [ADVERTHERE]Related article:
